College season begins again
I am delighted to let you know that not only have I made it to my third and penultimate year in college, but I have also been deemed sane enough (I jest!) to have the privilege of sitting with clients.
It’s a very very big deal for me.
Seriously, starting this course back in 2012, I couldn’t have begun to imagine how life-changing it would be. How many genuine people I would meet and how much I would delve into my own mind.
I cannot begin to count the number of times I have recommended therapy to friends, family, people on the Internet, because I believe it works. It works not because someone is guiding you to find a better version of yourself or anything. It works because you are given this space to sit that’s your own, with no interruptions and no judgement, where you can begin to explore who you are, what your life means to you. It works because you are given the chance to see that if the person sitting in front of me can accept me and care for me given that they know who I am, then perhaps I can begin to love and accept me for who I am.
And now to be at the cusp of actually being able to sit with another human being and be honoured with partnering them through their own journey…It’s indescribable.
so yeah, I’m frickin excited, and scared, and honoured, and feeling pukey all at the same time.
But tomorrow is our first day back, and there’ll be lots of hard work and assignments and exams but there will also be seeing once strangers, now friends back again for another year. Of laughs and disagreements and honesty and genuineness.
I am soooo looking forward to it!
