Reading for pleasure and challenges

A small sample of the books I will read over the next few weeks.

My life is finally beginning to slip into a boring and predictable slump, which is good. I’ve been waiting for a boring and predictable slump for the past two years.

This means I can finally write more again. I can finally find some mind space to be creative again. I can….yeah….do….tons of stuff. Which….is nice? I guess? But now I literally have no excuse not to write.

I am the only thing limiting myself.

So I’ve decided, like all good procrastinators, to do something else.

I’ve decided to read instead.

Good thing is that I love reading. And I’ve discovered a whole lot of genres and writers I never knew existed, due to joining a shitload erm, number of reading groups on Facebook and on Goodreads. But not IRL of course, what am I, a barbarian? This is the internet age, not the stone age!

Pete’s sake.

But truth is, I would never be able to make time for a real life book club, so that’s totally out the window. So, circumstances dictate a more modern approach.

Anyhoo.

One of the things I’m doing this year, is attempting the PopSugar reading challenge for 2019. If you’re unfamiliar with it, you can read all about it HERE. But a very short summary is, you have to read forty books in 2019; for the faster readers, you have ten extra books, which brings you up to fifty books. And for each, you have a book prompt. The prompts are, for example to read a book with a question in the title, or, to read a book with an item of clothing or accessory on the cover. My favourite so far (and I say that sarcastically), that I haven’t a hope of finding, is a book revolving around a puzzle or game. Where on earth am I going to even start finding the interest to read such a book? But of course, that’s exactly the point. To pull you a little out of your comfort zone and get you to cast a wider net for your reading material. So far, I’ve read seven books and am just finishing up my eighth so I’m going to have tons of reviews to catch you up on, starting tomorrow.

I’ll put up what book prompt I’ve read, and If you have any tips on books I should be reading, please don’t be shy to let me know either on twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I’m going to try and read mostly sci-fi and fantasy, mostly non-western writers, and as many diverse writers as I can. This may not always be possible, but I’m going to give it a damn good try. So yes, any tips will be much appreciated.

Look out for my reviews starting tomorrow, with the prompt: A book with a plant in the title or on the cover.

Happy reading.
