Netflix: Winter is here….All hail King Julien!
I love that expression. I know most people sneer at it as a very cheery feel good American term, but I actually like it. Here’s why:
It is the season where everyone gets to have some time off. School children, college closes, most work places close, even just for a day, so everyone gets – wink – a holiday!
Calling it Christmas in this day and age….not really appropriate as the world becomes smaller and people mix more. Granted the dominant celebration in “the west” is the Christian Christmas, but Kwaanza (African American tradition) , Hannukkah ( Judaism) , Milad un Nabi/ ID-E-Milad ( Islamic), Guru Gobind Singh Birthday ( Sikh), Bodhi Day ( Buddhism), Yule (Wiccan & pagan).
And of course, midwinter, the winter solstice, falls on the 21st December and that’s what I celebrate. So I think it’s quite appropriate in our modern age and be all inclusive with the,
(subtext – whatever you’re celebrating) phrase.
I finished my first essay for college last night at 1:28am, which is a relief as it is due this Thursday, and it’s time to finally let it sink in that yes, the holidays are on their way.
This year, the winter solstice falls on a Sunday, so a long walk surrounded, even partially, by nature is definitely on the cards for my little family. I’m getting my crochet groove on for presents and decorations, and long evenings indoors.
But before all that, I am sooo going to veg in front of the telly and just enjoy all the series I’ve been missing out on while researching and writing my essay.
So with so much stuff under my belt, I am very delighted to have a giveaway to celebrate!
